The recessed mount offered is precision cut on a laser cutter to the Garmin specs on page 43, less reference holes. Each adapter plate is anodized to prevent corrosion per Garmin, page 41.
The three most common problems with field fabrication are:
1. Finding and buying a small sheet stock of 2024-T3 x .090 thick as specified by Garmin.
2. Field fabrication will take 3-4 hours to make and then HOPE the first article is dimensionally correct!
3. The man hour cost of field fabrication is much more expensive than purchasing the FAA/PMA Product.
The DUAL G5 recessed mount adapter plate option requires an adapter plate/bracket, this information and technical specifications and drawing can be derived from page 43 of the G5 Install Manual.
Some adapters plates seen ONLINE, ARE NOT corrosion proofed per the Garmin specifications. I could not imagine forgoing this critical step in the manufacturing process just to save a few bucks!!!!
